Gloomy today in the Berkshires, with a drizzle actually welcome. When 30 inches of snow fell last month (March), who could imagine the ground dry again in mid-April. The ground is never dry in the Berkshires in mid-April. Elsewhere in the U.S., in certain cities, things are more than gloomy. Teens at a "sweet" sixteen birthday party are dead or in pain at a hospital, shootings are under investigation in Kentucky and elsewhere. And Republicans persist in talking about mental health as the underlying problem in mass shootings. Well, people all over the world have mental health problems, and mass shootings are not occurring on a daily basis in Europe, Africa, India or Siberia, etc. Why? Because people in other countries are not in love with guns. The mentally deranged in this country are those who think it's ok for millions of Americans to own guns, including assault weapons invented for the military; and what is the state of madness in the corporate boardrooms of gun manufacturers where advertising schemes are discussed and adopted, schemes that will sell more AR-15s and related guns to ordinary citizens? It is not unlike what the makers of opiods developed to hook people on drugs and convince doctors that they needed to prescribe more of these "wonderful" -- and addictive -- pills. It is quite unbelievable that conservatives are so blind that they can't connect the dots between a bullet hole and a gun.
